On March 21, 2022, Russian troops shelled the city of Avdiivka, as reported by the head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration Pavel Kirilenko on the official Telegram channel. As a result of the shelling, the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker was damaged. Significant damage was caused to the roof, walls and windows of the church.
