During the shelling of Kharkiv on March 2, 2022, the city’s oldest Orthodox church was damaged - the Cathedral of the Dormition of the Mother of God. As a result of shelling, windows and stained-glass windows were damaged, the interior, religious objects, and icons were destroyed. The building’s facade was slightly damaged as well. The Cathedral of the Dormition of the Mother of God is an architectural monument of national importance. At the request of the "Religion on Fire" team, Kharkiv Regional Military Administration provided detailed information about the damage to the Cathedral of the Dormition on March 2, 2022. The windows were desrtoyed: the central drum of the church cupola, in the central part of the altar, on the north side, windows on the dome. The stained-glass windows of the altar and the stained-glass window of the upper aisle of St. Paraskeva were destroyed. In the central part of the interior of the cathedral, the front door of the vestibule and the side south door were damaged. The iconostasis of the altar of the Great Martyr Catherine, the church utensils, and icons were damaged. The old clock on the bell tower is broken.
