Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, the northern regions of Chernihiv had been under enemy fire. The shelling that damaged the prayer house and the Sunday school of the First Chernihiv Church of Evangelical Christian-Baptists, took place on February 26, 2022, at approximately 3:30 p.m. According to eyewitnesses, the mentioned shelling was not aimed at the church itself, but was directed at the city. The House of Prayer and Sunday school were damaged by the shock wave and debris from a missile that exploded nearby (the window panes were partly blown out). As reported on the media resources of the Evangelical Christian-Baptists, the wall, roof and windows of the House of Prayer were destroyed by a shell that exploded nearby. The gas pipe and electricity supply were also damaged. After the liberation of Chernihiv region from the occupiers and the return of believers from evacuation, the First Chernihiv Church of the Evangelical Christian-Baptists returned to full functioning and celebrated its centenary on September 25, 2022.
