On March 24-25, 2022, the Saint Transfiguration Cathedral, which belongs to the National Architectural and Historical Reserve "Ancient Chernihiv", was damaged. According to the testimony of Andrii Hlukhenko, head of the department of scientific research of caves and archaeological monuments of this reserve, during the bombing the southern and western tower of the cathedral was cut by shrapnel. This is a tower without bells. The southern entrance vestibule was also damaged, the walls were broken by shrapnel and the panes in the windows were broken. As the scholar notes, "the southern wall of the Cathedral was damaged by shrapnel from a Russian cluster projectile. It was damaged on March 24-25, when the pedestrian bridge was being shelled. Then the road bridge over the Desna river in the direction of Kyiv was destroyed, and only the pedestrian bridge remained. The direction where the pedestrian bridge is situated has been shelled. Since it is not far from swell, the Saint Transfiguration Cathedral of the city of Chernihiv was also affected" (Source: ЧЕline.TV).
