According to the press service of the Donetsk Diocese, on the evening of July 30, 2022, Transfiguration Cathedral of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (MP) was damaged by shelling. As a result of the shelling, the windows of the cathedral were damaged, the window panes were broken and the facades suffered minor damage. A lot of debris was found in the area around the cathedral. On December 6, 2022, around 12:00 p.m., according to the press service of the Donetsk Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, an artillery projectile hit the altar wall of the left aisle in honor of Reverend Hilarion, the churchwarden of the Pechersk Savior and Transfiguration Cathedral in Donetsk. The report states that "the facade and roof were damaged by shrapnel and the shock wave, the windows of almost the entire altar part and partly at the northern side of the cathedral were broken, the window frames were torn out and the doors of the lower church and utility rooms were literally torn apart". On December 15, 2022, at 7:00 a.m., as a result of massive shelling in the center of Donetsk, the cathedral was damaged again. The press service of the Donetsk diocese of the UOC states that the projectile pierced the drum of the dome and fell inside the church.
